I’m having quite a bit of trouble with fiber preparation.\u00a0 I’m working on learning to comb wool for worsted spinning using a set of English combs and the kid mohair that my husband and friends conspired to get for me at Sheep-Con (that’s what my husband calls the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival) last year.\u00a0 It seems to me that when I first tried it out last summer, it worked a lot better.\u00a0 I guess that’s a good reminder that fleeces are easier to work when their fresh.\u00a0 My problem is that when I move the fiber to the other comb, over half of it stays behind on the first comb.\u00a0 When I move the fiber from the moving comb back to the stationary comb, about half of that stays behind.\u00a0 There don’t seem to be that many second cuts in the fiber, and I don’t think that all of that should be waste, but in all the demonstrations that I’ve seen, most of the fiber moves back and forth and what gets left behind on the combs is the waste.\u00a0 I’m going to post to some of my spinning lists and see if anyone has any ideas. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
