For me, there is nothing like the rush that comes with learning a new skill. Last Fall I started taking pottery and I have been deep in it. The studio where I am taking classes allows student to use the space at any time there is not a class going on. My husband might be regretting extracting the promise from me not to get any new large equipment.
Being a skill unlike any I have yet attempted, the learning curve has been steeper than I am used to. Here are some of my first works.
After practicing all of December and starting a new class, I am getting marginally better.
I got started in this in order to produce a piece for my persona pentathlon, so I am also working on some medieval forms. Some of these were done before I decided to actually make the pottery and were instead painted at one of those paint your own pottery shops. The forms they supply are slop cast rather than thrown which is an 18th century technology, but the painting is in the style of the 14th century and we are currently using those for our feast gear.
