Deceptively Difficult

The family has left after Thanksgiving.  It was a really wonderful visit.  And since my dad’s birthday is in early December, I was able to give him his present early.  This should have been his present two years ago, but I got so frustrated with it that I put it away.  It was an illusion scarf.  It reveals its pattern only when viewed from the correct angle.

My dad loves illusions, so I thought that this would be perfect.  It’s made from hand spun (by me) tussah silk.  The off-white stripes are natural and the blue I dyed using Jacquard royal blue dye.  It’s not a difficult knit, only purls and knits, but you can’t see the pattern developing as you go along, so you have to take it on faith that you haven’t made any errors.  I usually prefer my knitting to be of the kind you can do in front of the TV.  This is not that.  It did turn out rather well though, and he loved it, which is the most important part.
