De-frumpifying the Frumpy

I collect spoons…yes, the cheesy, old fashioned things that you find mostly in airports and schlock shops the world over.  It’s an old fashioned hobby, but it is something of a tradition in my family, and I have kept it alive.  The problem is, I have no way to display them.  I admit that I am no interior designer.  My house is functional and, since we have chosen to display on our walls the works of those of our family and friends who are artists, eclectic.  Still, the typical methods of displaying collectable spoons, are too frumpish, even for me.

So I have been cogitating for several weeks on a way to display the spoons that would be elegant…(ish).  I think that I have found a way.  Unfortunately, I am having difficulty photographing it in a way that does it justice, so please bear with the less than stellar pictures.

The implementation is fairly simple.  Black ribbons of varying lengths are sewn around the top of the spoons and the other end nailed with black tack nails in a straight row at the top.

Simple and elegant… more elegant anyway than before. 🙂

These spoons are only a part of my collection.  I decided that I only had enough room to display the ones from places I had been myself.  I have at least as many that have been gifts from friends and family.  I’m still looking for the perfect place to display them.
